PLASMA PEN

Removing skin tags with a spark.

The Plasma Pen is a handheld device that uses electrostatic energy on the surface of the skin which causes a superficial burn and stimulates a healing response. Like microneedling, plasma pen treatments increase the production of collagen and elastin. It is used with great success to tighten and reduce wrinkles in localised areas such as the eye and mouth area. It is highly effective in improving the appearance of scarring and stretch marks.

The high frequency plasma generation device is also used to sublimate any unwanted benign skin growths or lesions such as skin tags, warts, fleshy moles and DPN’s.

The benefits of using a plasma pen include the ability to target certain areas like the ‘crow’s feet’, eyelids or ‘smoker lines’. Furthermore it is an inexpensive way to remove lesions and provide lifting and smoothing to ageing skin. The plasma procedure carries a higher risk than a treatment like microneedling. For this reason, Alphen Aesthetics Clinic will only perform it on ideal candidates who agree to follow a strict protocol when undergoing this procedure. A mandatory 2 week skin preparation with a pigment inhibitor (product) is necessary to control the risk of post-inflammatory pigmentation which can be associated with inflammation and exposure to harmful UV rays. We prefer to perform this treatment in winter time only.

The plasma pen treatment has a moderate level of discomfort thus a medical topical anaesthetic is used to manage pain. Downtime of 3-7 days can be expected after the treatment, with swelling, peeling and scabbing post-treatment.
