Whilst lifting weights build muscle, needling builds collagen and elastin in the skin. The official term for this treatment is Collagen Induction therapy however it is more commonly known as Dermapen or microneedling.
The beauty of the Dermapen device is that the depths and speed of each treatment can be individualised to each person’s specific skin needs. Deeper layers are targeted to stimulate healthy tissue formation in ageing, scarring and stretch marks. When done superficially with strict procedures in place, it can be used to treat numerous types of pigmentation and rosacea. Generally 4-6 monthly treatments of microneedling are needed for best results. Mesotherapy and chemical peels may be used in combination with Dermapen treatment plans.
This treatment form is becoming more popular as a maintenance treatment due to the overall improvement in skin appearance. Specifically the elasticity and strength of the tissue, tone and texture. Maintenance treatments are done 3-4 times a year.
“Is it painful?” is a common concern when a patient is introduced to microneedling. At Alphen Aesthetics we apply a prescription strength Lidocaine ointment on the skin for 30 minutes prior to the actual treatment to make it pain free. And whilst the skin numbs a relaxing massage is given to help ease any stress.
Immediately after the treatment the skin will appear red and as the numbing wears off a slight stinging, much like sunburn, will be felt. Each person experiences the after affects of microneedling differently. The redness may last from a few hours to a few days.
